Filings

When decay is detected early you may not always experience symptoms. However, if you do have symptoms or toothache, it’s a warning that something is wrong and you should see your dentist as soon as possible.

Signs that you may need a filling:

Why we recommend white fillings:

At Surbiton Dental we no longer place mercury containing amalgam fillings. These fillings have been used for many years, but their use has more recently raised environmental concerns. We believe that advances in technology mean that modern, white fillings offer our patients many benefits:

CAN I REPLACE MY OLD AMALGAM FILLINGS WITH WHITE FILLINGS?

Yes. If you have been thinking about wanting to replace your old amalgam fillings with more aesthetically, desirable white fillings please speak to your dentist at your next dental examination.

Dental Implants

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DENTAL IMPLANTS?

  1. Feel and look just like your natural teeth
  2. Ability to eat and drink normally
  3. Restore your facial shape
  4. Cause no damage to surrounding teeth
  5. Strong, long-lasting

HOW DENTAL IMPLANTS WORK

Dental Implants are biocompatible titanium posts that are placed in the jawbone to mimic the root of a missing tooth. They act as a strong foundation to hold in place a replacement tooth. A crown, bridge, or removable denture can be attached to the implant to restore oral function to your mouth.

Root Canal Therapy

This can be caused by deep decay, large existing fillings, cracks, and trauma. Here at SmileOne Dental, we understand that having root canal treatment might seem a little daunting. However, modern advances in dentistry mean that this procedure should not be painful. In fact, it should feel no different than having a routine dental filling.

Signs you may need a root canal treatment:

DO I NEED A CROWN AFTER ROOT CANAL TREATMENT?

Often following root canal treatment a crown or onlay is advised. This is to protect the tooth from fracturing.

If you have experienced any of these signs please speak to us to book an emergency appointment.

Extractions / Oral Surgery

When may a tooth need to be extracted?

CAN MY TOOTH BE REPLACED FOLLOWING A DENTAL EXTRACTION?

We understand that losing a tooth can be worrying.

Before any dental extraction, your dentist will discuss the options you have to permanently replace your missing tooth and how to prevent any further tooth loss.

It’s often possible to replace your tooth straight after it has been extracted, ensuring you are never left without a tooth. These options are known as an immediate denture or bridge.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING THE PROCEDURE?

Your dentist will take the time to explain the procedure and answer any questions you may have. Care and skill will always be taken to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible.

You will leave knowing exactly how to take care of your smile as it heals. We’ll also call you the next day to check how you are and answer any questions you may have.

Dental Checkup

Your examination forms a vital foundation from which we aim to establish and maintain your dental health. Through advice, education, and simple preventative treatments, we want to prevent future problems because coming to the dentist for an exam and clean is easy.

What can I expect from my comprehensive dental examination?

On your first visit, we’ll take the time to get to know you, to understand you. We’ll discuss past treatment and clarify any concerns or problems you may have.
Your comprehensive dental health check of your mouth, teeth, and gums consists of:

If you do require treatment, we’ll give you a personal plan that we’ll ensure you truly understand. At SmileOne Dental we never want you to feel rushed, we will always encourage you to ask questions. We want you to fully understand your problems and the options you have to fix them.

Dentures

Advances in dental technology have meant that dentures can now not only be very comfortable but look incredibly natural, making eating, speaking, and smiling easy. Your dentist will take the time to fully understand your needs and assess which is the correct denture choice for you.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF DENTURES?

Complete: Recommended if you have lost all your teeth. These are typically made of a durable acrylic material which fit comfortably over gum tissue.

Partial: Recommended if you are missing one or more of your teeth. Partial dentures can be made of acrylic or cobalt chrome. Cobalt chrome dentures can be thinner and utilise clasps on your teeth making them more stable.

Immediate Dentures: Recommended if you want a tooth replacement option immediately after having a tooth extraction.

Implant Retained: Recommended if you are looking to firmly stabilise your dentures.

Hygienist

Your hygiene appointment will include:

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET MY TEETH PROFESSIONALLY CLEANED?

Most patients book bi-annual dental hygiene appointments. This enables your hygienist and dentist to identify any potential issues and address them before they become more invasive and expensive dental problems.

However, you may need more frequent dental cleanings if you have signs of gum disease, are pregnant or are undergoing orthodontic treatment.
